Justin Baldoni's New Lawsuit Against Blake Lively and Her Team: A Breakdown of the Claims
Justin Baldoni is embroiled in a new legal battle with his It Ends With Us co-star, Blake Lively, with explosive claims outlined in a recent lawsuit.
Filed on January 16, Baldoni, 40, is accusing Lively, 37, her publicist Leslie Sloane, and Ryan Reynolds of civil extortion, defamation, false light invasion of privacy, and other allegations. Baldoni is seeking $400 million in damages.
Baldoni’s lawyer, Bryan Freedman, issued a statement to Us Weekly, asserting that the lawsuit is based on a substantial body of evidence showing Lively and her team’s deliberate attempt to harm Baldoni, his team, and their companies. Freedman accused them of spreading edited and fabricated information to the media, claiming, "This is a battle she will not win and will certainly regret."
Freedman further stated, "Blake Lively was either severely misled by her team or intentionally misrepresented the truth." He emphasized that Baldoni’s team had nothing to hide, providing complete documentary evidence, including text
messages, emails, and videos. He condemned Lively for exploiting victims of harassment for personal gain, adding that she and her team had manipulated the media to attack reputations. The publicists impacted by Lively's actions also issued a statement, expressing devastation over the ongoing litigation. They accused Lively of using their names to promote a film on domestic violence, which led to a public backlash. They claimed Lively blamed them for the negative response, leading to further harm caused by false information fed to The New York Times—which they stand by in its reporting.
The statement also criticized Lively's smear campaign, accusing her of using the media to garner sympathy for her own mistakes while profiting from the promotion of her film. The publicists noted receiving severe abuse, including death threats and anti-Semitic slurs, due to Lively’s actions. They condemned the use of power and money to intimidate and bully those who challenge or oppose the celebrity's actions.
