Sunny Hostin's Husband, Emmanuel Hostin, Named in Insurance Fraud Lawsuit

Emmanuel "Manny" Hostin, the husband of The View co-host Sunny Hostin, is involved in an insurance fraud lawsuit filed in New York City. The lawsuit, which was filed on December 17, 2024, in the U.S. Eastern District Court, names Emmanuel as one of nearly 200 defendants. He is accused of participating in federal insurance fraud by allegedly receiving kickbacks for surgeries and billing a company that insured taxi, Uber, and Lyft drivers.

Emmanuel Hostin, who is listed as “Emmanuel Hostin, M.D.,” is an orthopedic surgeon at Mount Sinai Morningside and Mount Sinai West Hospitals in New York. According to the legal documents, he is accused of performing unnecessary surgeries, including arthroscopic procedures, and submitting fraudulent medical claims. The insurance company American Transit is said to have been billed for these services in exchange for disguised kickbacks, described as "dividends or other cash distributions."

Emmanuel’s attorney, Daniel John Thwaites, has denied the allegations, calling the lawsuit a “meritless” attempt by a financially struggling insurance company. Thwaites argues that the lawsuit is meant to harass doctors and intimidate them from collecting payments for services rendered to patients insured by American Transit. He also criticized the company for initiating the lawsuit without conducting an examination of Dr. Hostin or addressing concerns directly with his legal team.

Sunny Hostin, 56, and Emmanuel live in Purchase, New York, and have two children: a son, Gabe, born in 2002, and a daughter, Paloma, born in 2006.

Sunny, a journalist and lawyer who became a full-time co-host of The View in 2016, has shared publicly the challenges her family has faced, including the loss of Emmanuel’s parents to COVID-19 in January 2021. At the time, she shared how her in-laws, both doctors, had taken precautions against the virus but still contracted it, though the source remained unclear.

The lawsuit filed by American Transit seeks at least $450 million in damages. William Natbony, an attorney for the company, explained that "no fault fraud" is a significant issue in New York and emphasized that the lawsuit is part of the company’s legal obligation to combat such fraud.
